Neverwhere
by Neil Gaiman An Alice in Wonderland type story of a whole world beneath a world that most of us navigating through our mundane lives can't see, Gaiman takes us on the journey of one of the most mundane ones, Richard Mayhew. After deciding to save a dying girl on the street, he soon discovers that she is the Lady Door of London Below, and all of a sudden the people in his life - who mistreat him and who he only now realizes were not interesting anyway - have no idea who he is. Only existing now in London Below, Richard must help Lady Door restore her ruling prominence from some pretty evil baddies. Adventure, wonder, sentimentality and above all, fun. I read this book in two days, and still to this day it is the only one that has made me literally stand up and cheer at the ending. |
